Great read as always! Clumping China and Russia together as imperialist/authoritarian seems lazy to me though - would also love your thoughts on the difference between china's state dictated tech/censorship policies and the US's increasing technofeudalism structure

I have been WAITING for someone else to voice their frustrations over Richard Brody. He has the worst film takes for a critic so high up in any mainstream publication. I also remember him hating Oppenheimer in 2023 and being so annoying about it. Thank you for this.

It's cool how the program you outlined in your "statement of intent" shines through in your writing on specific topics—for example, recognizing the advantages of a professional editor without viewing mainstream media uncritically or comparing armchair critics with the reality in tech companies. Plus, actively seeking input from people who actually know what they're talking about. Keep it up!

I don’t think it helps things that we have two overactive social media poles in our society. One side is very much “spies are everywhere, Chinese people dangerous” and the other is “saying Chinese people are spying on us is racism”. Not helpful!
